I'm not going to lie... I love moving! Well, not so much the process, but the new adventures that await me in a new city. I have been spending the last several days preparing for the movers and for some reason, it is a little bittersweet. I guess it usually is. Leaving one thing, for another, leaving sweet friends to make even more. We have been incredibly blessed in our short time here.

Well, on to more cleaning and a massive trip to Goodwill. I have been planning this little girls nursery for awhile now and I think things are finally starting to come together. Topsail Blue walls from Sherwin Williams, really light aqua, with coral and pink accents and white twinkly lights and a white crib. I am so excited! Here are a few things that I have been collecting and making for her. Also, I have a pin board started that I am over the moon for. I can not wait to get settled in San Diego to start decorating and nesting!Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-89885265908870176142012-04-20T05:28:00.000-07:002012-04-20T05:28:19.270-07:00A Change in Direction

Life lately is full of change. The moment that my husband and I have been waiting for all of our marriage is coming. He is finished with flight school, completed the FRS, and is getting ready to join a squadron. I am so proud of my helicopter pilot. We have a sweet little girl on the way, coming oh so soon! And a huge move to San Diego next month. We are beyond thrilled. I have just become a stay-at-home mom and wife, a dream come true, one that I hope to never take for granted. Life is good, but there is so much to process and plan. Here's to the next 3 months of change!

Vacation was amazing and I have so many things I want to share from our trip. As we move out of vacation mode and back into semi-normal real life, I am making a really fun list of projects to do while Travis is at Seer school next week. I am going to need lots of things to do to pass the time... things aside from packing and organizing for the movers to come. So, here are the fun things that I am thinking about doing:

-finish the adorable little purse that I am working on... pics soon!
-make a skirt... or two. I think I am going to refashion an old Forever 21 dress that doesn't fit quite right anymore and turn it into a skirt, as well as make one from scratch. I know Fall is here, but it still feels like Summer, so I am not giving up on skirts yet.
-I have some new frilly, lacy stencils that I am dying to try out on something sweet.
-I have also been thinking a lot about drawing. I don't know what my drawings look like now. They are definitely different from my grad school work, but I want them to have the same feel. Here are words that come to mind... feminine, delicate, lacy, pattern, graphite, translucent paper, play with scale (massive drawings do not fit our lifestyle!), thinking about drawing on fabric/tea towels, coffee/tea stains, paper cutting, still using stencils and free form stencils that I have made, sewing, quilts, maps, transitioning, moving...
I know there are more... I really need to devote some time to playing and figuring out what is going to work for me. I am excited about the thought of these though.

That's pretty much what's on my mind, except for all of the non-fun stuff like work and moving and all the details associated with that... I'll post pictures soon.Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-52156463545237272782011-09-11T13:35:00.000-07:002011-09-21T10:18:11.013-07:00Vacation.We are heading out on a much needed vacation. We are super excited and I can't wait to share pictures from our trip around Florida. But tonight, we are dropping Jackson off at the sitter's house. Leaving him for so long makes me much more sad than I anticipated. I mean, who wouldn't miss this face?!
The first day after the tropical storm left was glorious! There was no humidity and the temperature was lower than it had been all Summer. It definitely left me with that Fall feeling, so I took Jackson on a little trip. First, we went to Haute Affairs for lunch. I definitely recommend it if you just want to treat yourself one day. They also have adorable gifts and things for the home. For lunch, I had the tarragon chicken and smoked gouda sandwich which was amazing... and Jackson had a few bites of chicken. We sat outside under the umbrella in the shade and I had a great time.
He thought it was a little boring, so I made a deal with him. If he endured my lunch, I would take him to the park for a walk. When we were on our walk at the park, a woman begged me to let him play with her dog, so we let the two of them run around the dog park for awhile. I can't even begin to tell you how beautiful and perfect the day was! I am definitely going to miss parts of Pensacola.Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-1520731660993033732011-09-09T10:42:00.000-07:002011-09-09T11:09:38.122-07:00Leisure Club.

These are the remnants of a beautiful morning date with my love! It was the morning of one of the stormy days and we needed out of the house, so we headed to one of our favorite places, The Leisure Club. They have amazing coffee, blueberry muffins, and a fun space downtown. It's so relaxing to sit and read with Travis or discuss our plans for the future, talk about where we're at now, and reconnect. It's such an important time that I hope we never take for granted.

Oh, and don't you just love the star in the bottom of the cup?

After posting pictures of Travis' winging banner, I got a lot of wives asking how to make it, so I went to the source. Paige, who originally wrote it up, sent me the PDF for it, so that I could pass it on to you. It's written for Marine colors, but if you are a Navy wife, just trade the red for Navy and the dark yellow, for a lighter yellow and I think it will look just fine. She included a way to hang it by making a pocket on the back, but I chose to use grommets that I bought for fabric at Hobby Lobby. Either way is great! I also chose to sew on my borders, but using the Wonder Under looks just as good and is much easier, for sure! Paige also mentioned that she would love to see other banners, especially if you change them up a bit. You can post links here in the comments or email them to her. Her email is on the bottom of the PDF. So here ya go! Let me know if you have any questions! You can download it and print it from this website.
Last night, I heard a little whining at the back door. I waited a minute and hoped he would go back to sleep, but he persisted. I drug myself out of bed, hunted for a leash, hooked him up, and took him outside.

As soon as I stepped outside, all of my frustration at being awoke in the middle of the night melted away. The sky was breathtakingly amazing. We have been enduring a tropical storm for days now and to finally, not only see the sky, but see it in all it's starry glory took my breath away. I wanted to lay under the stars for hours, in that unusually cool night that Tropical Storm Lee left us with, in exchange for his wrath. God took my breath away and I am so thankful that He woke me up to see it.

When we arrived home from the winging, I had cupcakes baked and the house decorated to make the occasion feel really special. Travis was surprised and I could tell that it meant a lot to him. I made the cupcakes in cute little gold cupcake wrappers and then took paint chips from Home Depot in gold, red, and yellow and cut out little flags and attached them to toothpicks with double stick tape. I thought they turned out really cute for something so easy. I also sewed this red and yellow bunting to hang, which was also very easy. I opted out of hemming them, because it wasn't the look I was going for. I got the fabric at Wal-mart along with the white bias tape. It was so quick to cut them out with a rotary cutter and then sew them on with the cute zig zag stitch. I had a ton of triangles left over and will for sure make more of this for future celebrations. It's great that the bunting is reusable for other times in Travis' career. It would be so easy to also make this in different colors for birthday parties and such. I really enjoyed getting to see everything come together.Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-6494313691243116512011-09-01T08:53:00.000-07:002011-09-01T08:53:08.338-07:00Winging Banner.

When Travis first started Advanced here at Whiting, I came across directions for the winging banner that the wives made their husbands for winging and I knew I had to do it. It was kind of labor intensive and the Wonder Under (iron-on adhesive) totally disagreed with me and my ironing board cover, but I am totally glad I did it. I was so proud to hang it on the house and have it up when his parents arrived.
Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-36383599288439628652011-08-31T08:58:00.000-07:002011-08-31T08:58:36.221-07:00Winging gift.

For Travis' winging I knew that I wanted to get him a little something special that wasn't too over the top. He had been talking about wanting a felt board for his patches, so I took that idea and ran with it. I got a frame, minus glass, at Hobby Lobby. I got a piece of wood from Lowe's, where they cut it down for me in the perfect size. I picked up some cork board squares and some black felt and went to work. It was super easy to assemble. I just attached the cork boards to the wood, then covered the whole thing in felt, staples it down on the back side and slipped it into the back of the frame and held it all in with a black piece of poster board and staples around the edges. I got some eye hooks for hanging it and attached those to the back and I was all done. It was a super easy project and he loves it. Now he has a place to keep all of this old squadron patches and various other ones that he collects and since I added the cork board, he can also use it for pins as well. It turned out to be the perfect gift and will look great in his new office.Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-53226476061471531472011-08-31T05:52:00.000-07:002011-08-31T05:52:24.220-07:00Winging.

It was a beautiful night with a great view of the bay and the sunset. The fish tacos and the company were amazing. Although, you have to eat 5-8 of the tacos to get full, they were well worth the money and something I will definitely try to duplicate at home. I love discovering little jewels like this in the different places that we live. I also love that even though our friends will be moving soon, we will see each other again. You have to love a small Marine Corps!

Travis' parents were here last week for the winging and we cooked dinner for them one night. We tried to make it a little Southern with sweet tea, green beans, smoked gouda cheese grits, baked grouper, a baguette, and key lime pie for dessert. The grouper came from Southern Seafood, a little seafood market in Milton that actually has pretty good stuff and the baguette came from Bodacious Pies and Bakery in downtown Milton. It turned out being the perfect local meal and his parents approved.Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-48443610494600479252011-08-29T09:39:00.000-07:002011-08-29T09:39:17.485-07:00Modern Meadow Quilt.

This is our first day out of flight school, so we have approximately one month until we move. I have decided to be more committed to documenting our last little time in Pensacola. We have loved living here and I want to be able to remember it all and share it later on in life. I thought it was funny that Travis's coffee cup said that "Everyone deserves a snow day." I would agree to that and say we deserve a snow day, a little escape from the heat. Oh and Travis is not as mean as he looks. He just rebels against my picture taking.Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-86421995921958952392011-07-29T12:00:00.000-07:002011-07-29T06:33:00.970-07:00Sketch.

Even with as many projects as I have going on right now, I still get bored. Last week in my boredom, I pulled out my pencils for the first time in a looonng time. I shouldn't admit that, but it's true and even when I am drawing, I am never drawing objects or anything realistic, but I just loved this image I had of Jackson sleeping and decided to give it a shot. The journal that I used to draw in is one i made about a year ago with the intent of keeping a sketchbook. It has various types of drawing paper used in it and I just love it... although that doesn't help me in keeping a regular sketchbook. I have accepted the fact that it just ain't happening, but I was pretty proud of this. Maybe I will draw more often.Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-31811271613357682302011-07-28T14:30:00.000-07:002011-07-28T14:30:00.628-07:00Ice Cream Runs.

One of our favorite things to do on Summer evenings is to go get ice cream. We love ice cream! We generally choose from Sonic or DQ, but our latest adventure has led us to the Tastee Freeze in town. While Tastee Freeze is generally known around here for their awesome gravy, their ice cream sundaes are not bad either. It's not really the fanciest place around, but they do have an adorable little picnic area with pennants and lights strung up around the trees... and we love that Jackson can come too!

Qulit top for this one is done and I just got the material to finish it off. I am so excited to be nearly finished with this and even more excited to have it on my couch to cuddle up in. It has been kind of a beast from the beginning... but here's to finishing the quilting before the winging!Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-91237585518787363212011-07-25T12:52:00.000-07:002011-07-25T12:52:15.581-07:00Birthday Treasures.

I am amazingly blessed. These are two amazingly awesome gifts from my mom and Travis' parents.

I love Kona solids for anything! They are great quality and come in every color under the sun. My mom got me this great pack of blues that I saw while on my last trip to Dallas to see her. I love them! I don't know if I am going to be able to cut into them. I think they look so pretty all tied up in the pack. She also got me a few other things from places that we visited on that trip and it was nice reminiscing.

...And since I have been doing so much sewing lately, Travis' parents sent me this amazing Shaker style sewing box. I love it and the craftsmanship is flawless! I have already filled it with my all of my sewing supplies. I just love quality things that I know will last forever and this box is definitely something I will treasure.
Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01752897835952820755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-768874718279568579.post-47091807999196828272011-07-13T10:56:00.000-07:002011-07-13T10:57:16.912-07:00Florida Oranges.
